Girls Club Special Event / Photo Shoot with Cheryl Lin

Waaaay back, on Saturday 14 June, we had a special Girls Club event. But before I tell you about that, I need to share some back story…

Secret Project: Girls PR

Last year, we had an event (“My Future”) where we found out that some of our girls were finding it difficult to promote themselves. So… we’ve been putting together some special events under a secret project, code-named Girls PR.

Girls PR events are all about helping you to promote yourself, e.g. practice public speaking, have a great résumé, ask for a salary raise, etc.

To kick off, we contacted a well-known Melbourne photographer, Cheryl Lin, and asked if she would do a photo shoot with us. Cheryl Lin is the Creative Director at BusinessChic, a popular fashion / street style website that features photos of professionals and their workwear style as captured on the streets and laneways of this fair city. Often, she pairs the photos with an interview – here’s an example of a recent subject, Claire Mueller. She also runs the Little Black Dress Project.

Cheryl loved the idea, so we planned a day in Fitzroy with 10 girls signed up for sessions!

The Photo Shoot

Beforehand, Cheryl asked everyone some questions to get a better understanding of what they wanted from the photo shoot – for example, if they just needed some nice, professional shots to use on social media (LinkedIn profile, etc), or if they needed other types of shots.

On the day, we had a full schedule – 10 girls – and one-by-one, Cheryl worked on getting some great natural lighting, “street style” shots at different, interesting locations around Fitzroy.

Here’s Cheryl hard at work…

Cheryl did a little writeup of the day, here too: So you need to update your online face?

Many thanks to Cheryl for an amazingly productive day and doing this special event with us, and many thanks to all the girls who came along and posed a million poses.
